Design Sprint

Solve critical business problems, prototype
solutions and test them in just 4 days.

After assembling a design sprint team (3-4 team
members from your side join our trio of: designer,
researcher and a strategist) we work through a
process of mapping your product, sketching
solutions, building a prototype and testing it with
real users.

After a week of work we deliver the first user
validated solution and most importantly - clarity of
what everyone is going to do next.

What’s The Format?

Define. Sketch. Prototype. Test.

Day 0

Internal
kick-off

Day 1

Problem
mapping

Sketching

Client in-house
Details
We begin with a discussion about your business strategy and follow with the series of activities identifying solutions to your most pressing challenges. We recap your goals, draw a map outlining your processes, seek inspirations and solutions outside of your company, and conclude the day with generating multiple solution sketches. Hide

Day 2

Decision
making

Storyboarding

Client in-house
Details
Having gone through the solution sketches we vote for the most promising one. After confirming with the decider, we’re on the correct path, we proceed to sketching a detailed storyboard and a test scenario for how users will move through the solution concept during the final day of tests. Hide

Day 3

Solution
Prototyping

Client in-house (Optional)
Details
This day is focused entirely on designing and building a prototype. Time-boxed to one day, our design team glue UX, UI and the content, to build a clickable / physical mockup of a solution. Meanwhile the researcher finalizes the script and makes final preparations for the following day. Hide

Day 4

Testing with
real users

Client in-house (Optional)
Details
We host and run 4-6 user tests with current (or potential) customers. Each session is a mix of a typical usability test with an in-depth user interview. Our goal is twofold. Firstly, validate product & UX assumptions. Secondly, gather insights about users, their behaviors, needs & expectations. Hide

What Do You Get
From the Sprint?

  • Momentum. Big time.
  • Every member of your team is on the same page. Same understanding of problems and possible solutions.
  • Clarity of were we are and where we’re going - clear action points.
  • Answers or partial answers to most important sprint questions.

Plus some tangibles:

  • Prototype of a solution tested (validated with clients).
  • Raw design files.
  • Sprint Summary Doc with recommendations about priorities and next actions.

Is Sprint
Good for Me?

Well, let’s see...

Yes if

  • You want to build a brand new product / service or improve an existing one.
  • You want to act fast and get to solution without any unnecessary waste.
  • You want to find out how your clients react to your future product ideas.

No if

  • You expect final hi-definition designs after a week of work.
  • You can’t devote 2 full days of your 2-4 employees to work alongside our design team.
  • You don’t want to meet for the sprint in person.

What are the Benefits?

We’re glad you asked.

FASTER &
MORE EFFICIENT

Stuff we accomplish in 4 days would normally take months of going back and forth between client and the agency.

DRIVEN BY
CUSTOMERS

Validating prototypes with users minimizes the risk of failed solutions and gives us unique feedback we can use for the next iteration.

CHEAPER

We achieve cost savings by spotting problems, gaps within the first week of work. Therefore there is no need to rebuild the software after it’s launched.

CONCRETE

No endless explorations and lengthy speck documents. The goal is simple: find user pain-points, prototype solutions and test the best ones with real clients.

KNOWLEDGE
RETENTION

Contrary to traditional design methods where most ideas and insights remain on the agency side, design sprint allows the client to keep track and better hold on to design knowledge.

HOLISTIC

Best results are delivered by multidyscyplinary teams therefore we encourage you to invite various experts from your company ie. customer support, engineering, etc.

What happens after the Sprint?

You have two options.

1

Continue collaboration with Ultimo.

Further design, testing and solving problems identified in the Sprint. We use 2 week iteration cycles and still collaborate closely with your team.

2

Carry on at your end.

Option for companies with established product teams. No worries, you can call us anytime to consult or dive deep into a specific problem you encounter.
